• Veteran’s Day Celebration in Downtown Gatlinburg

Gatlinburg is celebrating Veteran’s Day with a proper tribute at Ripley’s Aquarium in the Smokies:

    From their website:

Gatlinburg is formally honoring the valiant men and women who have served and are currently serving our country during this year’s Veterans Day Celebration on November 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Plaza at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Veterans Day National Committee recognizes the ceremony, now in its 18th year, as an official Regional Site for the Observance of Veterans Day. The event is free to the public and will feature Major General Terry M. “Max” Haston as a keynote speaker.

The event will feature musical entertainment by the Gatlinburg-Pittman High School Band and distinguished vocalists Lakieta Bagwell-Graves, who will perform the National Anthem. Likewise, special presentations will be made by the Gatlinburg Boy Scout Troop 111, Girl Scout Troop 20648, and Wings to Soar, which will commemorate the occasion with a demonstration of an American Bald Eagle. Gatlinburg Police Department Captain Jim Maples, a Vietnam veteran, will also present the POW-MIA Table/Invocation. This year the Master of Ceremonies will be WVLT anchor Alan Williams.”

  • The Advantages of Staying Between Sunday and Thursday

We all know that weekends are the nationwide preference for vacation time and this is only natural as most have commitments that hold them to a Monday through Friday work and school schedule.

However, if you do get the opportunity to have some time off between Sunday and Thursday, we’d love to encourage you to use that time to vacation here in the Smokies! There are several advantages (at least!) to booking some time with Deer Ridge during the early or mid-week:

    1. Less traffic to and from attractions. It’s only during the peak season of the Autumn colors and certain holidays that require the numerical date itself, such as the 4th of July, as opposed to a “traditional” time of the year, such as Thanksgiving or Easter that don’t fall on certain numerical dates, and even then it’s only holidays that focus more on travel as part of the festivities. Apart from that, normal traffic in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the surrounding areas are a fraction of what they normally are; both on the road and in line. Also a great time to visit Dollywood!

    2. More availability and cheaper prices at some restaurants. Most are fairly consistent in what prices they offer and only separate them out between lunch and dinner, but we do have some that only offer certain menus and therefore prices during the weekends or discounts for certain days that aren’t peak periods of business.

    3. There are more condo units available at Deer Ridge during the weekdays. Why is this important? Other than it means a greater chance of securing a vacation with Deer Ridge, each condo unit is decorated and accommodated differently – no two units are alike! This means you can find a condo unit that fits your personality and desires much more easily at Deer Ridge.

There are other smaller reasons to visit the Smokies during early-mid week days, but those you’ll need to discover for yourself once you get here!

If you’d like to explore the prospects of an early-mid week stay with Deer Ridge, you can reserve by phone toll free at 877-333-7743.

  • Thanksgiving in Gatlinburg 2017

You may not know it to look at us and our specialization for 1 and 2 bedroom luxury condos that focus on coziness and amenities over accommodation size, but Deer Ridge has over 20 years of history in providing families big and small with the perfect Thanksgiving accommodations for their turkey days! One might not think a series of condos would be possibly BETTER at cooking Thanksgiving dinner and accommodating for dinner time, but think about it – multiple condos means multiple kitchens. One group works on the turkey, another works on the mashed potatoes and sides, one can do the dessert, etc. Has there ever been a Thanksgiving where one house and one kitchen ever offered you enough room to cook for so many? Then simply gather together in one condo for the big Thanksgiving meal and you and your family have the perfect accommodations for the event. The fireplace burning, a Christmas special on the TV and the views from the Smokies alongside it… what else could make it better?

The Thanksgiving events in Gatlinburg, of course! Here’s what we have to report for this year’s activities:

Gatlinburg’s favorite W.L. Mills Auditorium events are back on this year between 11/21/17 to 11/27/17, and this year it even extends right into the starting Christmas events in early December. Gatlinburg Festival of Trees (11/22/17 – 11/27/17), The Great Smoky Mountains Thanksgiving Arts and Crafts Show (11/21/17 – 11/26/17) and Winterfest Tunes and Tales (11/24/17 and continues on each weekend until the 17th of December). And then, quite literally right after the 29th, the the Great Smoky Christmas Arts and Crafts Show continues on from the Thanksgiving show listed above between 11/27/17 and 12/6/17. These can all be found quite close to one another and will greatly hype up the coming Christmas for this year, just as it has for years before that.

Visit www.gatlinburg.com for more information on those events.

Also, those who might be interested in seeing fireworks on Thanksgiving day should go visit the Titanic Museum on the parkway. On the 23rd, Titanic will be holding a fireworks show, having musical entertainment by singer Caitlin Mesiano, and even have their own “fantasy” princess there to entertain the younger guests. You can see more info on this at http://www.titanicpigeonforge.com/.

We’ve still got some condos available for the Thanksgiving weekend and you can find those open reservations on the front page of www.deerridge.com.

  • Upcoming Winterfest Kickoff Events

While Halloween and the peak colors of the mountains get closer in our month of October, we wanted to take a minute to look ahead at the next truly big event coming up in the Smokies – the Winterfest kick off!

Most of you know that all three cities have a party within very short dates of each other, some years had them all on the same day. In this article, we’ll give you some beginning information on all three since it’s still a little while before the event will take place and some information hasn’t been detailed yet. Let’s look:

    Sevierville Winterfest Kickoff 2017
November 6th at Sevierville Community Center and Civic Center
    From 3:00PM to 9:30PM

More information TBA. Stay tuned at http://visitsevierville.com/.

The 28th Annual Pigeon Forge Winterfest Kickoff
    November 8th at Patriot Park
    From 5:00PM to 7:00PM

    MyPigeonForge.com writes:

“Draped in more than 5 million lights, Pigeon Forge creates a winter wonderland for locals and guests alike to enjoy during the city’s annual Winterfest celebration. The lights of Winterfest shine from early November through the end of February.

From winter light displays to captivating holiday shows and so much more, here are just a few of the fun ways you can experience the delightful Winterfest Celebration.

Visit Dollywood to see more than 4 million lights shine during Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas, when the park is filled with holiday music, plenty of rides, a nightly Parade of Lights and much more to celebrate the season. Dollywood recently announced the addition of Dolly’s Parade of Many Colors, featuring new floats, specialty characters and songs. The park also adds a new show to its entertainment lineup with the stage production It’s a Wonderful Life.

Old Mill Square features a light display depicting its own version of a covered bridge, one made of thousands of twinkling lights that lead to one of the most historic areas of Pigeon Forge. The Smoky MountainOpry is decked out for the holiday season with giant trees, wreaths and more, all covered with sparkling lights. You might even catch Old Saint Nick making a rooftop delivery.

Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede pulls out all the stops when it comes to decorating for the holidays. One of the highlights is their 60-foot-tall tree, adorned with colorful lights, ribbons and sparkling ornaments from the very bottom to the twinkling star on top. Another must-see is The Island in Pigeon Forge with all new decorations including approximately 40,000 ornaments, half a million lights and more than 5,000 feet of garland. Guests are treated to three new Christmas trees, including one that stands 40 feet tall and allows guests to walk through. Santa and Mrs. Claus greet guests at their new workshop while roving carolers fill the air with Christmas music.

And the best way to take in the beauty and splendor of all the light displays throughout Pigeon Forge is on the Winterfest Driving Tour of Lights, which begins at the north end of the Parkway.

Whether this is your first time to visit Pigeon Forge, or you’re making a return trip, Winterfest is the perfect occasion to share special memories with family and friends.”

    From their website:

“Join Gatlinburg in saluting America’s veterans of the Armed Forces, featuring stirring musical numbers and words of tribute on Ripley’s Aquarium Plaza.

Every year since 2000, Gatlinburg, Tennessee hosts a very special event on November 11 to honor our nation’s veterans in a fitting and appropriate manner. The title “Gatlinburg Veterans Day Celebration” is an accurate description of the event in that the service and sacrifices made by our veterans are celebrated with the intent to thank those who gave – and continue to give – so much to keep our nation free. The ceremony at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies Plaza starts at 11 a.m. and is free to the public.”

  • Upcoming Fall Events and Colors

We don’t want cry wolf, but it’s extraordinarily obvious that the color change has already started in the Smokies. Heck, the colors started changing in AUGUST this year! That was due to the early cold snap we had for a while at the late end of that month and the first half of this month and now that the temperatures are back up, we’re not quite sure what could happen. We could see the full Autumn Bloom as early as 1-2 weeks ahead of schedule, right on schedule (which is towards the last week of October) or maybe extend it on through November. Could be anyone’s guess at the moment, so those of you looking to get a bright and colorful Autumn getaway in the Smokies might want to start planning now and make your trip sooner.

Why sooner if it’s not guaranteed the peak will come sooner? Well, the colors have already started for one thing, so you’ll still get many gorgeous views from our decks and we have a slew of special events to celebrate the season coming up as well. In Pigeon Forge, we have the Annual Heritage Day at the Old Mill on September 23rd, which will include music performances and crafts in a festival setting. From the 24th of September to the 30th, we will be the headquarters of the National Quartet Convention at LeConte Conference Center on Teaster Lane parallel to the main Pigeon Forge parkway. Then, for a full month starting September 29th to October 28th is Dollywood’s world-famous Harvest Celebration – where the music will play non-stop, booths will set up for more Appalachian artists to congregate and show off their talents, and the rides will be even sweeter! This year also features a brand new event called the “Great Pumpkin LumiNights” which will bring back a sense of Halloween to Dollywood for the first time in decades!

Then in Gatlinburg, starting September 22nd and going on to October 29th is the Oktoberest at Ober Gatlinburg where German fun, food and beer will run practically non-stop for its duration and the Autumn Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair where over 100 booths will open, gathering a majority of crafters from our area as well as many from further out across the country. It’s like the entire Arts and Crafts Community all concentrated in one spot!

You can get more information on these events at www.mypigeonforge.com and www.gatlinburg.com.

And don’t forget you’ll have even more reasons to book your Fall vacation early with our upcoming Sunset Festivals. We hope to see you then.

  • Sunset Festival Sponsor Spotlight: Texas Roadhouse in Gatlinburg and Sevierville

We’ve been doing our Sunset Festivals for quite a few years here at Deer Ridge, and this year we get to welcome one of the highest profile sponsors and food providers we’ve ever had with Texas Roadhouse. Texas Roadhouse is a big name for Southern dining in our region and each of their restaurants certainly knows how to put the word “legendary” in their food, service and margaritas to make Legendary Fun.

Texas Roadhouse will be serving our 4th week of Sunset Festival on October 28th and providing chicken, wings and fixin’s. For those of you who would like to get to know them beforehand (or after), we definitely recommend you try one of their restaurants in Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg or Sevierville. Ice cold beer is the name of the game no matter which one of their restaurants you visit and you can also expect:
