    Harvest Festival:
“Each fall unique artisans from around the country visit Dollywood to share their beautiful handmade crafts with guests during Dollywood’s Harvest Festival presented by Humana. In addition to Dollywood’s own skilled craftsmen, many talented artists set up shop to demonstrate a number of traditional crafts.

This year’s booths feature inspirational jewelry, paintings, handmade historic games, textile art, woodworking, felt hats, dolls and textiles, pottery, glass jewelry, chainsaw carvings, fiddles, and hand-painted ornaments. Visiting crafters are located in booths throughout the park.” – official website

    Great Pumpkin LumiNights:

The largest addition ever made to Dollywood’s fall festival, Great Pumpkin LumiNights features artistic sculptures, whimsical scenes and delightful, family-friendly fun throughout Timber Canyon.

The Bavarian Fun Makers Band, in authentic costumes, will perform traditional Bavarian folk dances, schuhplattling, oompah music, sing-a-longs, yodels and more with daily shows and multiple performances every day during Oktoberfest. Special Oktoberfest Biers will be served along with traditional German wurst, schnitzel, sauerkraut, strudel, pretzels and more.

    Gatlinburg Craftsmens Fair
    October 10-27, 2019
    https://www.gatlinburg.com/event/gatlinburg-craftsmens-fair/

“The celebration of fall also encompasses one of the southeast’s most popular events… the Annual Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair. From October 10 through 27, the Gatlinburg Convention Center blossoms into a multi-level mecca of the top craft people from all across the United States.

Autumn’s brisk air signals all of nature to transform the Great Smoky Mountains from lush green to a majestic patchwork quilt of colors.

A unique characteristic of the Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair is the fact that artisans not only make their art available for viewing and sale, but also demonstrate their special talents and skills during this show, which is recognized as one of the top 20 events in the Southern U.S. by the Southeast Tourism Society.

    Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Music shows are scheduled at 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. daily.”

  • Veteran’s Day in Gatlinburg 2017

Deer Ridge is, has been and will always be, a big supporter of current and former military staff and we’d like to share with you Gatlinburg’s posted information on this year’s Veteran’s Day Celebration in Gatlinburg. We offer a 27% Military Discount every day of the year. Use our Toll Free number to make your reservation: 877-333-7743

    From their website:

“Join Gatlinburg in saluting America’s veterans of the Armed Forces, featuring stirring musical numbers and words of tribute on Ripley’s Aquarium Plaza.

Every year since 2000, Gatlinburg, Tennessee hosts a very special event on November 11 to honor our nation’s veterans in a fitting and appropriate manner. The title “Gatlinburg Veterans Day Celebration” is an accurate description of the event in that the service and sacrifices made by our veterans are celebrated with the intent to thank those who gave – and continue to give – so much to keep our nation free. The ceremony at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies Plaza starts at 11 a.m. and is free to the public.”

More information on Gatlinburg’s upcoming Veteran’s Day Celebration may be made available as it gets closer to November and you can find their original article at https://www.gatlinburg.com/event/veterans-day-celebration/.

  • Upcoming Fall Events and Colors

We don’t want cry wolf, but it’s extraordinarily obvious that the color change has already started in the Smokies. Heck, the colors started changing in AUGUST this year! That was due to the early cold snap we had for a while at the late end of that month and the first half of this month and now that the temperatures are back up, we’re not quite sure what could happen. We could see the full Autumn Bloom as early as 1-2 weeks ahead of schedule, right on schedule (which is towards the last week of October) or maybe extend it on through November. Could be anyone’s guess at the moment, so those of you looking to get a bright and colorful Autumn getaway in the Smokies might want to start planning now and make your trip sooner.

Why sooner if it’s not guaranteed the peak will come sooner? Well, the colors have already started for one thing, so you’ll still get many gorgeous views from our decks and we have a slew of special events to celebrate the season coming up as well. In Pigeon Forge, we have the Annual Heritage Day at the Old Mill on September 23rd, which will include music performances and crafts in a festival setting. From the 24th of September to the 30th, we will be the headquarters of the National Quartet Convention at LeConte Conference Center on Teaster Lane parallel to the main Pigeon Forge parkway. Then, for a full month starting September 29th to October 28th is Dollywood’s world-famous Harvest Celebration – where the music will play non-stop, booths will set up for more Appalachian artists to congregate and show off their talents, and the rides will be even sweeter! This year also features a brand new event called the “Great Pumpkin LumiNights” which will bring back a sense of Halloween to Dollywood for the first time in decades!

Then in Gatlinburg, starting September 22nd and going on to October 29th is the Oktoberest at Ober Gatlinburg where German fun, food and beer will run practically non-stop for its duration and the Autumn Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair where over 100 booths will open, gathering a majority of crafters from our area as well as many from further out across the country. It’s like the entire Arts and Crafts Community all concentrated in one spot!

You can get more information on these events at www.mypigeonforge.com and www.gatlinburg.com.

And don’t forget you’ll have even more reasons to book your Fall vacation early with our upcoming Sunset Festivals. We hope to see you then.
